Plain Language Summary

# Pay Our Military Act of 2025 - Summary **What It Does:** This bill ensures that military members and Defense Department civilians continue receiving paychecks if the federal government shuts down in 2026. Specifically, it provides funding for active-duty military pay, reserve component pay, and salaries for civilian Defense Department employees and contractors who support military operations. The emergency funding would last until either Congress passes a full budget or January 1, 2027, whichever comes first. **Who It Affects:** The bill directly impacts active-duty service members across all military branches, military reservists, National Guard members, and civilian Department of Defense employees.

It also covers Coast Guard personnel and their supporting civilians (since the Coast Guard operates under the Department of Homeland Security during peacetime). **Current Status:** The bill is currently in committee and has not yet been voted on by the full Senate. It was introduced by Senator Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) in the 119th Congress.
