Medicare and Medicaid Dental, Vision, and Hearing Benefit Act of 2025
Medicare and Medicaid Dental, Vision, and Hearing Benefit Act of 2025
Plain Language Summary
# Medicare and Medicaid Dental, Vision, and Hearing Benefit Act of 2025 - Summary ## What the Bill Would Do This bill would expand Medicare and Medicaid to cover dental, vision, and hearing services, which are currently not included in standard Medicare benefits. Specifically, it would add coverage for dental care (cleanings, exams, fillings, major work, emergency care, and dentures), vision care (eye exams, eyeglasses, and contact lenses), and hearing care (hearing exams, hearing aids, and related services). The bill would also increase the federal government's share of costs for these services under Medicaid, meaning states would receive more federal funding to cover these benefits. ## Who It Affects and Key Provisions The bill primarily affects Medicare beneficiaries (seniors 65+) and low-income individuals covered by Medicaid who currently pay out-of-pocket for these services.
The coverage would include cost-sharing requirements (copayments or coinsurance) to control expenses, and the bill establishes specific payment rules and limitations on benefits. By expanding federal Medicaid funding, the bill could help states afford to offer these services to their Medicaid populations. ## Current Status As of now, the bill is in committee (S 2084 in the Senate), meaning it has been introduced but not yet voted on by the full Senate. It was sponsored by Senator Angela Alsobrooks (D-Maryland).
