Pay Our Border Patrol and Customs Agents Act of 2025
Pay Our Border Patrol and Customs Agents Act of 2025
Plain Language Summary
# Pay Our Border Patrol and Customs Agents Act of 2025 - Summary **What the bill does:** This bill would ensure that U.S. Border Patrol agents and U.S. Customs officers continue to receive their salaries and have funding for their operations during a government shutdown. Normally, during a shutdown, many federal employees are furloughed (sent home without pay), but border security personnel are considered "essential" and must continue working. This bill would provide the money to pay those workers even if Congress fails to pass a regular budget. **Who it affects:** The bill directly benefits Border Patrol agents and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers who work at U.S.
borders and ports of entry. It also affects the federal government's ability to maintain border security operations during budget lapses. Indirectly, it affects anyone who travels through U.S. borders or ports. **Current status:** The bill is currently in committee (HR 1916, introduced in the 119th Congress by Representative Monica De La Cruz, a Republican from Texas). It has not yet been voted on by the full House of Representatives.
