Plain Language Summary

# No Social Security for Illegal Aliens Act of 2025 (HR 1172) Summary **What the bill would do:** This bill would prevent unauthorized immigrants from having their work earnings counted toward Social Security benefits. Currently, some unauthorized workers pay Social Security taxes through payroll deductions, and those earnings can potentially count toward their future benefits if they eventually become eligible. Under this bill, any wages or self-employment income earned by unauthorized immigrants would be excluded from Social Security calculations, both for past and future work. However, the changes would only affect benefits going forward—existing benefits wouldn't be retroactively reduced. **Who it affects and key provisions:** The bill primarily affects unauthorized immigrants who have worked in the United States and paid Social Security taxes.

It also indirectly affects the Social Security system, as these excluded earnings could theoretically increase available funds for other beneficiaries. The bill applies the income exclusion to both work done before and after the bill becomes law, though benefit reductions only apply to payments made after enactment. **Current status:** As of now, the bill is in committee and has not been voted on by the full House. It was introduced in the 119th Congress by Representative John Moolenaar (R-MI).
